We always have a few overly ripen bananas sitting on our kitchen counter at home and look for some ways to use up. We often bake banana breads with them and everyone in our family seemed to be sick of it. This time, we made this unfussy black bottom banana cake.

It has a chocolate flavored banana cake layer on the bottom, which yields the dark color, and the unfussy banana cake layer above. To make it more chocolaty, we sprinkled mini chocolate chips on top.

If you like chocolate and banana combination, this black bottom banana cake will hit the spot.

You will want to use ripen bananas. When the banana gets soft and black spots appearing on the skin, that’s good time to use up in baking. The more black spot, the stronger banana fragrance you will have in the baked goods.
