These unfussy chocolate truffles are amade with Oreo cookies and cream cheese. It’s direct and so savory. It makes cute Valentines’s day gift to someone.
Is there anybody who doesn’t like Oreo cookies?
In our house, we hardly have moments that these America’s most favorite sandwich cookies would run out of stock. And we often make one of the direct, unfussy, yet tasty truffles with them for Valentine’s day. It is the Oreo Truffles, but our kids call them Oreo Bombs. It is always a huge hit with our kids and their friends at school.
Oreo and Cream Cheese Truffles
All you need is 36 Oreo cookies and a packet of cream cheese, then coat with melted chocolate. We also like to coat them with powder sugar, cocoa powder, and granulated almond for variation.
If you like Oreo, and the flavor of cream cheese, you will love these little bombs. They are so adorable to look at, too, right? So why not make some for your special someone for this Valentine’s day? Who knows? Your special someone might want to marry you after tasting one.
Here are your everyday Oreo cookies and cream cheese. Cream cheese should be in room temperature.
How the dish comes together
Put 36 Oreo cookies in a zip lock bag and smash with your hearts out! Food processor would do the job within a few seconds but using the hand will tone your biceps and triceps nicely.
You want the cookies to be well crushed without any big chunks.
Put them in a mixer and add the cream cheese. Mix well until you don’t see any white spots at all.
Make 40-42 balls with the mixture. You want to chill these balls for 1 hour so that they will take the coating easily.
You can roll the balls in powder sugar, cocoa powder, and granulated almond. For the almond, we toasted the whole almonds in 375 degree F oven for 6 minutes first, then processed then. But we think they become like fine crumb. We would try to keep them in small bites so that you can enjoy the crunch texture.
For the chocolate coating, melt chocolate chips (either semi-sweet or dark) and 1 tablespoon of shortening in a double boiler. Shortening will make the coating smooth without altering the flavor of chocolate.
When chocolate is well melted, place a ball on a folk and pour the melted chocolate over using a spoon. We found this works a keeper, instead of dunking the balls directly into warm glaze. The excess chocolate will drizzle down through the folk.
Place the balls on the silicon mat or waxed paper. Sprinkle with whatever you desire or leave plain. Drizzling with melted white chocolate can be pretty, too. You will want to freeze them for 15-10 minute to set.
Use a knife to life up and trim off the excess chocolate on the bottom.
These little bombs are so good that it is direct to gobble up a few in one sitting. They don’t taste like the old-style truffles but has the taste that both young and old would enjoy. Our kids absolutely adore.
Receiving gifts from someone is special, but giving gifts to someone makes you happy. Enjoy your Valentine and eat lots of chocolate!
