Do you often find yourself longing for the sun-drenched shores of a tropical island, the gentle lapping of waves, and a refreshing drink in hand? While a spontaneous trip to the Caribbean might not always be possible, bringing a taste of that paradise to your doorstep certainly is. This **Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri recipe** is more than just a drink; it’s an instant escape, a mini-vacation in a glass. Close your eyes, take a sip, and let the delightful blend of flavors transport you to your happy place.

For many, the strawberry daiquiri holds a special place in childhood memories – a forbidden adult treat, often enjoyed in its non-alcoholic form. As adults, we now have the pleasure of experiencing this classic cocktail in its full, boozy glory. And we’re about to make it even better!

While the traditional strawberry daiquiri is a beloved classic, we believe in elevating culinary experiences with thoughtful twists. For this particular recipe, we’ve infused it with a delicate hint of sophistication: **homemade basil simple syrup**. Simple syrup itself is incredibly straightforward to prepare, typically requiring just equal parts sugar and water heated until the sugar fully dissolves. But when you introduce fresh herbs like basil, you unlock a new dimension of flavor that perfectly complements the sweetness of strawberries and the crispness of rum.

Flavored simple syrups are a game-changer for homemade cocktails, allowing for endless creativity and personalization. The process is remarkably simple: just add your chosen herb, fruit, or vegetable to the simmering sugar and water mixture. Once the flavors have melded, strain the syrup, let it cool, and it’s ready to transform your favorite drinks. It’s a secret weapon for any home bartender looking to impress.

We’ve experimented with this technique extensively, discovering incredible pairings. For instance, a **grilled jalapeño simple syrup** adds a delightful sweet-spicy kick to a Watermelon Margarita, creating an unforgettable sensory experience. Similarly, a **mint simple syrup** infuses a Frozen Coconut Mojito with an invigorating, fresh burst, making it exceptionally refreshing. The possibilities truly are boundless.

In this **frozen strawberry daiquiri**, the basil simple syrup doesn’t overpower; instead, it offers a subtle, aromatic undertone that beautifully enhances the vibrant strawberry and smooth rum. It’s a sophisticated twist that takes this classic from delicious to absolutely extraordinary. Once your simple syrup is prepared and cooled, the rest is effortless: simply combine all the ingredients in a blender, process until smooth and icy, and your perfect summer cocktail is ready for immediate enjoyment.

What Makes the Perfect Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri?

Creating an exceptional frozen strawberry daiquiri relies on a few key, high-quality ingredients. Each component plays a crucial role in achieving that perfect balance of sweetness, tang, and frosty bliss. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Fresh or Frozen Strawberries: The Star of the Show

Whether you choose fresh or frozen strawberries, ensure they are ripe and vibrant. Fresh berries will offer a brighter, more natural flavor, but may require slightly more ice to achieve the desired frozen consistency. Frozen strawberries, on the other hand, contribute significantly to the slushy texture and often allow you to use less additional ice, resulting in a richer, less diluted flavor profile. For the best results, hull and slice fresh strawberries before blending.

  • Quality Rum: The Spirit of the Tropics

A good quality white rum is typically preferred for daiquiris as it has a clean flavor that allows the fruit to shine. However, a light-bodied dark rum can also lend a more complex, subtly aged note. For those seeking a delicious non-alcoholic option, simply omit the rum to create a delightful virgin strawberry daiquiri that everyone can enjoy.

  • Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice: The Essential Tang

This is non-negotiable! The vibrant acidity of fresh lime juice is what truly balances the sweetness of the strawberries and simple syrup, cutting through the richness and providing that signature daiquiri zing. Bottled lime juice simply doesn’t compare in terms of freshness and flavor complexity. Aim for ripe, juicy limes and use a good citrus juicer to extract every last drop.

  • Ample Ice: For That Perfect Slushy Texture

To achieve the ideal frozen, slushy consistency that defines a daiquiri, you’ll need plenty of ice. The amount can vary depending on whether you use fresh or frozen strawberries. Start with the recommended amount and gradually add more, blending in between, until your daiquiri reaches your preferred frosty thick consistency.

  • Simple Syrup (Traditional or Flavored): The Sweet Foundation

This provides the sweetness. While traditional simple syrup (just sugar and water) works beautifully, our homemade basil simple syrup truly elevates this cocktail with a subtle, aromatic herbal note. It’s an easy step that makes a big difference. You can also purchase plain simple syrup at most grocery stores if you’re short on time.

Mastering Homemade Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is a bartender’s best friend and incredibly easy to make at home, saving you money and offering endless opportunities for customization. For this **Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri recipe**, we recommend our unique basil-infused version, but mastering the basic technique opens up a world of flavor possibilities.

Basic Simple Syrup Instructions:

Combine equal parts granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan. For this recipe, we use ½ cup sugar and ½ cup water, which yields approximately ¾ cup of simple syrup – enough for four generous daiquiris and a little extra for future cocktails. Place the saucepan over high heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Stir constantly to ensure all the sugar fully dissolves, which typically takes only 2-3 minutes. Once clear, remove from heat and allow it to cool completely before use. Cooling is crucial, as warm syrup can melt your ice and dilute your frozen drink.

Infusing Your Simple Syrup with Flavor:

The magic truly happens when you infuse your simple syrup. To create a flavored syrup like our basil version, simply add your desired ingredients (such as mint, basil, sliced ginger, or even jalapeño) along with the sugar and water at the beginning of the process. Let them simmer and boil with the syrup, allowing the flavors to deeply infuse. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and use a fine-mesh strainer to remove the solid ingredients. This ensures a smooth, clear, and perfectly flavored syrup. Always let your flavored simple syrup cool completely, preferably in the refrigerator, before incorporating it into cocktails.

A World of Flavored Simple Syrup Ideas:

Once you’ve mastered the basic technique, you’ll discover that the options for flavored simple syrups are truly limitless. Experiment with these fantastic additions to elevate your cocktail game:

  • Fresh Herbs:
    • Cucumber: Delivers a refreshing, cool note, perfect for gin or vodka cocktails.
    • Rosemary: Adds an earthy, piney aroma that pairs wonderfully with citrus and dark spirits.
    • Lavender: Offers a delicate floral essence, ideal for elegant, light drinks. My friend Lauren even makes awesome Lavender Grapefruit Mimosas!
    • Mint: Classic and invigorating, a must-have for mojitos and juleps. My friend Leslie makes an amazing Mint Julep with Blackberry Simple Syrup!
  • Spices & Roots:
    • Black Peppercorns: Adds a subtle, warm spice and intriguing aroma.
    • Ginger: Provides a zesty, spicy kick, fantastic in whiskey or rum drinks.
    • Cinnamon Sticks: Infuses a warm, inviting spice, excellent for seasonal or cozy cocktails.
  • Fruits & Berries:
    • Blackberry: Adds a beautiful color and tart-sweet fruitiness.
    • Raspberry, Blueberry, Peach: Any berry or stone fruit can be mashed and simmered for a fruity syrup.

Beyond single flavors, consider creative combinations like Cinnamon Ginger, Lavender Rosemary, or Blackberry Mint. Once you start, you’ll find yourself creating unique syrups for every occasion and every spirit.

Storage Tips for Simple Syrup

One of the best things about homemade simple syrup is its excellent shelf life. Once prepared and cooled, store your simple syrup in an airtight container or a clean glass bottle in the refrigerator. Properly stored, it will remain fresh for up to one month. This makes it incredibly convenient to prepare a batch in advance, ensuring you always have a gourmet cocktail enhancer on hand for unexpected guests or spontaneous weekend celebrations.

Last summer, I found myself constantly whipping up batches of roasted jalapeño simple syrup. Its unique combination of sweet and spicy was an absolute hit, especially when friends came over for poolside gatherings. Having it readily available in the refrigerator made entertaining a breeze, allowing me to quickly assemble impressive cocktails with minimal effort. Guests were always genuinely impressed by these “fancy” homemade concoctions – little did they know how incredibly simple they were to make!

Crafting Your Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

With your aromatic basil simple syrup now perfectly cooled, it’s time for the exciting part: blending your very own **Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri**! This step is quick, easy, and incredibly satisfying.

Step-by-Step Blending:

  1. Gather Your Ingredients: Ensure you have your cooled basil simple syrup, fresh or frozen strawberries, white rum, freshly squeezed lime juice, and ice cubes ready.
  2. Load the Blender: Carefully add the basil simple syrup, strawberries, rum, lime juice, and ice to a high-speed blender or food processor.
  3. Achieve Perfect Consistency: This is where a little finesse comes in.
    • If you’re using **frozen strawberries**, they contribute significantly to the icy texture, so you’ll typically need less additional ice. Start with about 2 cups of ice cubes.
    • If you’re using **fresh strawberries**, you’ll likely need more ice to get that desired frosty, slushy consistency. Start with 2 cups and be prepared to add more.

Begin blending on a low setting, then gradually increase to high. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and no large ice chunks remain. If the mixture is too thick for your blender to process, add a splash more rum or lime juice (or even a tiny bit of water) to help it move. If it’s too thin, add a few more ice cubes and blend again.

  4. Serve Immediately: Once your daiquiri has reached that perfect, thick, and frosty consistency, pour it into chilled glasses. Garnish with a fresh strawberry, a lime wedge, or even a small basil leaf for an extra touch of elegance. Enjoy right away before it melts!

Making a delicious, restaurant-quality frozen daiquiri at home has never been easier. Get ready to impress yourself and your guests with this refreshing and flavorful cocktail!

Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

You’ll feel like you’re on vacation when you’re sipping on this Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri recipe! It’s easy to make at home & perfect for summer parties!
Servings: 4 (12 oz) cocktails
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Author: Whitney Bond
Course: Drinks
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Basil Simple Syrup

  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves

Strawberry Daiquiri

  • ¾ cup basil simple syrup, recipe below
  • 4 cups strawberries, fresh or frozen
  • ¾ cup white rum
  • ½ cup lime juice, fresh squeezed
  • 2-4 cups ice cubes

Instructions

Basil Simple Syrup

  • Add the sugar, water and basil to a small saucepan on the stove over high heat. Bring to a boil, stir constantly until all of the sugar has been dissolved, 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and strain out the basil with a mesh strainer. Allow to cool in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.

Basil Berry Daiquiri

  • Once the simple syrup has cooled, add it to a blender with the strawberries, rum, lime juice and ice.
  • Blend until smooth and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Basic simple syrup, made without the basil, can be used for a more traditional strawberry daiquiri. Simple syrup can be purchased at the grocery store on the aisle with the cocktail mixers or made at home following the recipe provided, simply omitting the fresh basil.
  • Less ice will be needed if using frozen strawberries, than if using fresh strawberries. I like to start with 2 cups of ice cubes, then add more, if needed, until the daiquiri reaches the desired consistency.
  • To make a virgin daiquiri, omit the rum.
