After hundreds of burgers grilled, smoked, smashed, seasoned, sauced, and eaten, I’ve put together the Ultimate Guide to the Best Burgers. From easy gourmet toppings to the ideal seasoning and sauces, this guide gives you everything you need to skip the drive-thru and make outstanding burgers at home.

Hi, I’m Whitney, your guide to flavorful burgers! 👋🏻
Growing up in Oklahoma, burgers were a regular part of life — my uncle even owned an onion-fried burger restaurant in my hometown. All those early memories shaped what I believe makes a truly great burger.
After years of grilling, smashing, stacking, and saucing my way through countless recipes, I’ve built a collection I’m genuinely obsessed with. Whether you’re firing up the grill for a backyard BBQ, feeding a crowd on game day, or making something tasty on a weeknight, these recipes and tips will help you get fantastic results every time.
I’m sharing my best burger tips, favorite gourmet toppings, and top burger recipes. From a juicy Mushroom Swiss to a restaurant-style Hawaiian burger, these recipes will help you make the best burgers at home.

Tips for making the best burgers every time
Seasoning for great flavor: For 1 pound of ground beef, use about 1 tablespoon of hamburger seasoning and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. I recommend 80/20 ground beef to keep burgers juicy.
Form consistent patties: A kitchen scale and a burger press make it easy to form uniform patties. I like 6-ounce patties — big and juicy without being oversized.
Prevent shrinking: Press a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb so they cook evenly and don’t dome up on the grill.
Don’t flatten on the grill: Avoid pressing burgers with a spatula while cooking. That squeezes out juices and makes the burger less flavorful.
Timing for doneness: A 1-inch-thick patty cooked 4–5 minutes per side over medium-high heat yields medium. Add about 1 minute per side for medium-well and 6–7 minutes per side for well-done.
Rest before assembling: Don’t put burgers directly onto buns off the grill. Let them rest 5 minutes on a separate plate to redistribute juices — this keeps burgers juicy and prevents soggy buns.
Now let’s talk toppings!
Whether you’re building a burger bar for guests or crafting a gourmet burger at home, these toppings will elevate your next burger.
